Carver Fretboard Caul Kit (STL Download)

Description

These are the fretboard cauls I designed for gluing fretboards on in my own shop, and now you can print a set for yours. The kit includes six bottom cauls, a top caul and a tightening knob, all ready to slice and print. Each bottom caul is branded and labeled with its station, so you always know which one goes where.

What’s included

• Imperial set (1/4-20): six bottom cauls (S1 to S6) with station distances marked in inches, the top caul and a 1/4-20 knob
• Metric set (M6): the same six bottom cauls with station distances marked in millimeters, the top caul and an M6 knob
• PDF guide: parts list, hardware, print settings, a station chart in inches and millimeters, and step-by-step glue-up instructions

Hardware you’ll need

• Imperial: 12 bolts, 1/4-20 x 4-1/2 in., fully threaded, plus 12 hex nuts and 12 flat washers (1/4 in.)
• Metric: 12 bolts, M6 x 110 mm (DIN 933, fully threaded), plus 12 M6 hex nuts and 12 M6 flat washers (DIN 125)

The bolt heads drop into hex pockets on the underside of the bottom cauls, and the nuts press into the knobs, so nothing spins or rolls away during a glue-up. A flat washer under each knob protects the top caul as you tighten.

Print notes

• Print 6 top cauls and 12 knobs, plus one of each bottom caul (S1 to S6)
• PLA or PETG works well. Full settings are in the guide.
• Each caul is 220 mm long, so it fits a standard 220 mm print bed

Good to know

• The station spacing is built around the Carver standard neck. It will work on most bolt-on necks, but check the station chart against your own neck before glue-up.
• The kit covers the fretboard from the nut to the body. At the heel, a pair of F-style clamps with a flat scrap block does the job, and the guide shows how.
• This is a digital download. No physical parts ship.
